Advantages of Being Bilingual Essay
In todayââ¬â¢s society, twenty percent of the United States citizens are bilingual which demonstrates that America is rapidly growing. With all this growth, people are becoming fast learners when it comes to accumulating multiple languages. With the good comes the bad, therefore not all people are fortunate enough to learn and develop another language. By understanding and comprehending two languages you have achieved a big accomplishment. Being bilingual is important, especially in todayââ¬â¢s society, because it allows people to become a dependable source ââ¬â when it comes to their occupation. Being bilingual is also important because it shows the time and effort put into learning a new language, which shows devotion. Overall, being bilingual is a huge benefit because it allows people to work globally, increases job opportunities, and it opens the doors to a new culture. Many businesses around the United States associate with their workers and customers globally. Being bilingual is efficient because as the businesses expand, they need people to talk to others from across the globe. Plus, if you can speak a language someone else cannot then you are reliable for that business. Another plus about being bilingual in the cooperate world is they usually offer a higher pay or rank to people who know multiple languages. Most companies do that because it is hard to find people out there that can fluently speak another language and can handle the situation and if those people were not there it would be chaotic. Therefore by stating all of this information, companies need bilingual people because they do not just deal with English speaking people, they also speak to people from all over the globe which is an important role to fill in a corporate job. Studies have shown that bilingual people have better task switching capacities because of their acquired ability to inhibit one language while using another. In other words, speaking two languages forces your brain to recognize two different language systems. So, basically you become smarter. Researchers set lingual, arithmetical and physical tasks for 121 children, aged about nine, in Scotland and Sardinia, Italy. They found that the 62 bilingual children were significantly more successful in the tasks set for them. The study also assessed the childrenââ¬â¢s vocabulary, not so much for theirà knowledge of words as their understanding of them. Again, there was a marked difference in the level of detail and richness in description from the bilingual pupils. Bilinguals score higher on average on tests involving creative thinking or problem-solving. The ability to translate abstract concepts from one language to another also develops the skill to look at tangible problems in more than one abstract way. Did you know that people who speak more than one language tend to make fewer errors in their driving? A side benefit, nonetheless! Bilingual adults and children seem to have social and emotional benefits like being able to internalize negative states like anxiety, aggression, anger, loneliness or low self-esteem less frequently. They have greater tolerance and less racism. It seems likely bilinguals would be more tolerant of differences and more open to diversity. According to studies, bilinguals tend to make better rational and financial decisions. Bilingual children are more likely to have an interest in the cultures that speak their second language, whether it is a ââ¬Å"heritageâ⬠language or not. This can manifest early in life as an active interest in different educational avenues. Museums, fairs and street festivals, and even just visits to neighborhoods will have an inherent interest to bilingual children that monolingual children may not share. Children raised bilingual are more likely to show tolerance for other cultures at a young age. They play more easily with children who do not speak their language or who come from different socioeconomic backgrounds, and are more likely to show an interest in socializing beyond their established circle. In early childhood, this helps greatly with school, which focuses heavily on social skills in the lower grades. It can also help prevent disciplinary needs later in life ââ¬â more tolerant children are, overall, better-behaved children. Bilingualism promotes overall cognitive development because a bilingual individual encounters the world from two different language perspectives, which prevents them from having a limited experience. This extended way of thinking facilitates the approach to cognitive problems and higher level of abstract thinking. Bilingual adults have a clear edge in business world. By being able to communicate in two languages, you have twice as many opportunities to land a great job. Being bilingual makes it easier toà travel, find a job and belong to this new global world inside and outside of the U.S. Childrenââ¬â¢s brains are primed for the necessary language skill developments in a way that adultsââ¬â¢ arenââ¬â¢t. Many of the advantages described here will show up most strongly if you start bilingualism in your childââ¬â¢s early age (the earlier ââ¬â the better!). Adults can acquire the same skills and strengths through bilingual training, but it happens much more slowly (how much spare time do we have in our busy adult lives?) and with a greater need for tedious repetition. In conclusion, Bilingual individuals are the new norm and if you are monolingual you are staying behind the curve. Itââ¬â¢s adapt to survive or you will not make it in this new world order.

Organizational Structure Essay
An organizational structure is a composition that specifies a companyââ¬â¢s hierarchical structure. There are various kinds of conformations that organizations can choose to build their business around. The organizational structure exemplifies the way in which control and business affairs have been appointed within the organization. Organizational structure encompasses the design of an organization though people positioning and responsibilities in order for organizational goals can be reached. Some of the time, a formal structure is not necessary due to a small informal business setting. In large organization responsibilities must be distributed. Hence, the reason that policies and procedures are established that assign responsibilities for numerous positions. The determination of these organizational functions (such as marketing, finance, human resources, and operations) influence and determine the organizational structure of your an organization. The three main types of organiza tional structures are functional structure, divisional structure, and matrix structure. Divisional Structure The structure that an organization is based around also is contingent on the enormity of the company. Divisional structure separates the faculty based on the commodity and customer demand verses geographical location. For example, each area within the organization is accountable for certain divisions. Each division has individual support systems such as finance department, marketing department, warehouse department, and maintenance department. Divisional structure is grants flexibility and is a decentralized structure. Divisional structure also grants quick adaptability to geographical changes. Divisional structure embellishes advancements in the market and industry and allows for various plans of action. However, this structure causes replication of resources due to each unit having the necessity of every resource. PepsiCoââ¬â¢s Organizational Design An example of an organization design around divisional structure is PepsiCo. PepsiCo is a flexible company that is constantly looking for new innovations and consistently adapts to the geographical market. PepsiCo has a decentralized organizational structure. The functional determinations are made in individual units with corporate control and direction. PepsiCo has one CEO and three division presidents. The companyââ¬â¢s hierarchical structure continues as each division is broken down into market units. Each market unit has a director. Furthermore each market unit is divided into regional units, then down the chain to sales units. Each unit has its own resources, such as marketing, finance, human resources, and operations departments. PepsiCo determines responsibilities by departmentalization. Departmentalization is a conglomeration of common duties and characterization of tasks. The influences of departmentalization are function, product, geographic, process and customer. PepsiCo maintains a span of control by making sure of correct distribution of responsibility among employees and task obligations are accounted for. For example, units are tasked with weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly forecast for sales, operations, overhead, and labor. Reports are sent weekly to account for these actions. Human resources departments are in each division to ensure control over the organization. There are guidelines and procedures in place to ensure the rules are being followed across the globe. Formalization sets the standard for the administered responsibility. Each unit at PepsiCo has management teams in place to ensure control of task performances. For example, a if a location has been tasked with a 1,000 case distribution for week one in the period and the sales teams are severely falling short on sales, management will step in to centralize the issue, reiterate the method of actions, and ensure the actions are conducted in a certain manner to achieve results. PepsiCo is multinational organization made up of three units which are PepsiCo Americas Foods, PepsiCo Americas Beverages and PepsiCo International. This structure allows the organization to focus on manifesting international markets, which will grant independence revenues, enabling focus on better product advancement. The organization is spread across the globe. However, the control is local, unlike a matrix structure that is located only in a single area (PepsiCo 2012). Matrix Structure A matrix structure formalizes line teams as well as the typical divisional hierarchy. The matrix structure is a hybrid between the functional and divisional structure, effectively creating independent business units for each product or service created or each unique market targeted. The matrix-structured organization is a project-based business that divides individual groups based on functional specializations. Variation of the matrix structure divides the authority by both functional and project areas. The functional manager heads up the functional areas of the organization. The project supervisor oversees the assigned project. This allows for management to focus on areas of proficiency. Companies such as General Motors has based its organization around the matrix structure due to the ability to specialize in specific areas, and organizational communication through other fields. General Motors believes the differentiation of ideas creates innovational determinations. The matrix structure also allows the human resources department to be shared throughout the organization. General Motors is made up of one main chief information officer (CIO) and several divisional CIOs that control the functionalities in the organization. General Motors also has process information officers that work in various areas of expertise across the organization. General Motors believes the matrix structure develops global commercialism (Daft 2007). Functional Structure Functional Structured organizations group tasks according to the target. Functional structured organizations work well for organizations that have a need for departments to rely on expertise of its faculty. A major disadvantage to a functional structured organization is the communication boundaries due to variation in departments that work individually. One company that a functional structure works well is Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart is one of Americaââ¬â¢s largest retailers. Wal-Mart is designed by a functional structure. Wal-Martââ¬â¢s target market is a consumer with median incomes. Wal-Mart has a limited amount of functions in specialized areas with in the organization. Wal-Mart does not produce its goods, but has enough buying power to supply the demanded products. The organizational structure and large size enables the buying power to purchase goods at low prices. This buying power enables Wal-Mart to offer its target market lower prices creating a competitive edge over other retailers. A functional structured organization; such as Wal-Mart have a chief executive officer, limited executive staff, and department heads in domineering areas of expertise such as accounting, marketing, human resources and warehouse. Wal-Martââ¬â¢s headquarters and executive staff is made up of a Chief of Executive Officer, Chairman of the Board and Board of Directors, with supporting committees. Conclusion Determining an organizations structural design that will be the most effective for a specific company has great significance on organizational success. Using an unsuitable design structure can be consequential in communication, product development, customer service, and countless situations of other organizational issues. Organizational structure can determine the successful outcome of the organization. Reference Bateman, T. S., & Snell, S. A. (2011). Essay about The Odyssey as a Hero Journey - 2353 Words
All of us have similar experiences. We share in the life journey of growth, development, and transformation. We live the same storiesà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦the trappings might be different, the twists and turns that create suspense might be different from culture to culture, the particular characters may take different forms, but underneath it all, its the same story, drawn from the same experiences(Linda Seger, Creating Myth, 1). All people face trials and tribulations throughout their life. Thus, what defines one from ones fellow human beings is not the trials themselves, but how one overcomes the challenges along the journey, as well as the psychological and physical lessons one learns from the actions engaged. Heroes, as depicted inâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦For one month Odysseus refuses to leave his safe home in peaceful and bountiful Ithaca. The reader is not told of the rationale behind his final decision to join the war; however, one must assume that he believes he will be successful, returning home with many spoils of war, or that he will receive honor for participating. His decision to leave Ithaca cannot be simply based on a whim: he is a young king with many responsibilities, and while he rules his land with great strength, he is inexperienced. Thus, the reasons for initiating his journey most probably include the experience and maturity he will gain fighting the Trojans. One can ascertain that the actual catalyst that enters into Odysseus life is the Trojan War itself. The war represents a first step for Odysseus; after all, while it is his trickery that eventually wins the war for the Achaens (it was his idea to build the large wooden horse in which the Achaen army hid and from which they successfully defeated Troy, we are introduced to Odysseus as the great tactician (Book VII, 232-301). Cunning is a trait he already possesses: it cannot be the object of his journey; it merely starts him off. Yet he must initially survive the battle, and his survival proves his capacity to undertake the journey, moving him to the next stage of the Hero Journey. The Second stage of the Hero Journey is the most visible. The change management plan should be able to comply with the objectives of the company. The objectives of the company needs to be assessed for the determination of the proper method for the implementation of the change management plan for the company. The main concern regarding the execution of the change management plan of the company needs to be addressed in the change management plan. The changed should be able to bring a positive change in the company. Negative changes should be considered only if it can benefit the company in one way or the other. If there is loss in the process of implementation of the change management plan then there needs to be inclusion of the required details about the work in the system. The above 6 key messages needs to be kept in mind during the implementation of the change management plan. The key elements needs to be implemented in the process of development of the change management plan. The elements needs to be assessed properly for the making of the change management plan. Identify Change Elements The elements of the company can be described as the essential building blocks of the company. The collection and the proper working of the company are essential for the proper working of the company. The major elements where the change needs to be implemented in the company are as follows: Stakeholders: The stakeholders of the company can be said to be one of the primary financial element in the company. They hold a stake in the company for exchange for a sum of money to the company. The stakeholders may often tend to get hyper due to the rise in the working pressure of the company. This would result in the rise for the amount of money that needs to be invested into the company by them. It can be often beneficial for the company to change the number of stakeholders of their company. This would provide others to invest in the company and also have a rotational financial income for the company. Specialist: The working specialist group of the company should be worked in rotational work for the betterment of the company. They should be changed every five years in order to make the work better in the company. New faces in the company would work double the effort of the older employees which helps in the growth of the company. Leadership: Apart from all the works in the company, the management of the company can be considered to be one of the most important work for the completion of the work in the company. This causes the change in the form of leadership in the company. The change in the leadership can be beneficial for the company in the form of new innovative ideas and works for the company. Change in leadership has always been a welcome sign in the company. The democracy of a country works in the same way with the implementation of the change in the leadership form. Resources: The collection of different resources are the optimal working process for the progress of the company. Thus the use of fresh supply of resources for the company should be welcomed as a change in the company. If it is seen that the workers of the consolidated who provide the resources to the company are not providing the high grade products then it would be beneficial for the company to change their resource collection companies. The above points cannot all be implemented at the same time. However it should be considered that there is a positive impact process and a negative impact process for the process in the company. Thus it needs to be considered before the implementation of the above processes before they are implemented into the company. Develop Change Plan For the implementation of the change management plan with the help of the following process: Sl. No. Action Who When Performance Measures 1 Discussion Manager, stakeholders to understand the process to be changed 2 Development Manager After 1 to produce the work for the change process 3 Writing Manager, Writer After 2 to write the plan for execution 4 Execution Manager After 3 to execute the work for the change management plan 5 Feedback Manager After 4 to collect the feedback for the from the managers and the employees 6 Revision Manager After 5 to revise the plan based on the feedback collected 7 Finalization Manager After 6 to finalize the change plan for the company Consolidation For the completion of the change management plan for the change there needs to the process of the completion of the policies and the execution of the plan in a proper manner. The policies and the performance of the project plan needs to be emphasised as per the change plan that has to be developed. The removal of the barriers regarding the change system in the organisation needs to be used for the execution of the plan. The correct process would be to use the system process of the objective set out for the project for the completion of the project. Reinforcement of the changes needs to be done so that the company would be able to evaluate the changes required for the betterment of the company. Evaluation The evaluation of the change plan process needs to be related to the achievement of the change management plan for the company. The planned objective of the company needs to be understood and then studied for the development of the change management plan. The discussion with the management and the stakeholders of the company needs to be done upon which the decision needs to be taken for the completion of the plan. The development would then be started based on the discussion completed for the plan. The change plan is written in a report form to be reviewed and executed in the company. After the step the plan can be executed in the company. The execution cannot be completed all at once. Step by step evaluation needs to be done on the project. The completion of the evaluation process would require time which can be used for the collection of the feedback based on the steps completed. Based on the feedback the plan needs to be revised and then the final execution needs to be executed. T he plan of the process can then be executed as per the requirement of the objectives of the company References Al-Haddad, S., Kotnour, T. (2015). Physician-Assisted Suicide Is Defined As Suicide In Which A Physician
Physician-Assisted Suicide is defined as suicide in which a physician supplies information and/or the means of committing suicide (e.g. a lethal dose of sleeping pills, or carbon monoxide gas) to a person, so that individual can easily terminate their own life ("Passive Euthanasia"). Some terminally ill patients are in unbearable pain and/or experiencing an unbearably poor quality of life ("Passive Euthanasia"). They would rather end their lives than continue until their body finally gives up. Does the state have the right to deny them their wish ("Passive Euthanasia")? During the first year of legalized physician-assisted suicide in Oregon, the decision to request and use a prescription for lethal medication was associated with concern about loss of autonomy or control over the bodily functions, not with fear of intractable pain or concern about financial loss ("New England Journal of Medicine"). Suicide is a legal act that is theoretically available to all. But, a person who is ter minally ill or who is in a hospital setting or disabled may not be able to exercise this option, either because of mental or physical limitations. In reality, they are being discriminated against because of their disability ("Passive Euthanasia"). Euthanasia, or physician-assisted suicide, should be legalized, and an open option to patients who are mentally or terminally ill. It should be the patients right and choice. Religious opposition to medical relief of suffering is not a new topic. In 1591, Eufame Macalyane, a lady of rank, was charged with seeking aid for the relief of pain at the time of birth of her two sons and was burned alive on the Castle Hill of Edinburgh (Brazil). Using pain killers such as chloroform was considered contrary to the will of God as it avoided one part of the "primeval curse of woman" (Brazil). The same thinking is shown in the modern-day opposition to physician-assisted suicide; with Catholics believing that end of life suffering purifies the soul and must therefore be ended (Brazil). In a personal interview with Father Edward Domin of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Church, Father Ed stated that the Church was against any type of suicide regardless of the knowledge of the action (Personal interview). "Some opponents believe that physician aid-in-dying would undermine public trust in medicine's dedication to preserving the life and health of patients..."(Egendorf 116). P hysician-assisted suicide is active voluntary euthanasia. It is active euthanasia because it concerns methods that intentionally cause the death of the patient. It is voluntary because the patients make the decision to have their lives ended ("Physician-Assisted Suicide"). When one looks at the issue in terms of these distinctions, two separate moral questions arise: Is it morally acceptable for a Christian to request assistance in indirectly causing his or her own death? Is it morally acceptable for a Christian physician to adhere to the wishes of a patient who makes such a request ("Physician-Assisted Suicide")? What Christians say about issues of morality should be and is usually reflective of their fundamental faith convictions ("Physician-Assisted Suicide"). "It is a pledge by medicine to find more effective ways of eliminating pain, or providing emotional support, and of assisting the sufferer to experience a "good death" (Physician-Assisted Suicide)". The refusal by medical caregivers to assist in a patient's suicide is a pledge that the caregiver will never give up on a patient and never cease active forms of care ("Physician-Assisted Suicide"). The argument here is that it is neither a part of the cure nor is it a form of care ("Physician-Assisted Suicide"). Why isn't eliminating the suffering person an acceptable part of the cure ("Physician-Assisted Suicide")? Proponents of physician- assisted suicide argue that people care for pets and animals who are in pain by "putting them to sleep" therefore, shouldn't everyone do the same for their loved ones (Physician-Assisted Suicide)? (Beliefs about suicide varied considerably in ancient Greece. The Stoics and Epicureans believed strongly in the individual's right to choose the means and time of his death (Jamison 13). This is also supported by today's Right to Die society of Canada: "...the right of any...individual...to choose the time, place, and means of his or her death" ("Right to Die Society")). Aside from the fact that people and animals are treated differently
